Red Riding Hood

Hey Kids!

So I was dragged to see Red Riding Hood because my "Special Friend" J (that's what I will refer to him as on here) wanted to see it during our date night. So since we usually go see what I want to see I decided I would let him have his pick. The last time he wanted to go see a movie and felt strangely about his choice was to see Tyler Perry's Colored Girls and I REFUSED!!!! So Red Riding Hood was a little better than I expected it to be. Please keep in mind I went into the film with Low expectations and was pleasantly surprised to be proving wrong. The movie is about a village that is being tormented by a werewolf and for some reason "Red Riding Hood" (played by Amanda Seyfried) has attracted the attraction of the beast and the towns people. So the town's people can't seem to get rid of it on their own so here comes a "Priest" (played by Gary Oldman) to help them. In the midst of all this there is love, lust, arranged marriages, children born out of wedlock, killings in the name of God and "Witchcraft". And its all directed by Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke.

Now there is a lot of talk that this movie looks a lot like Twilight and feels like as well. I disagreed with this up until the werewolf was shown for the first time. Mrs. Hardwicke didn't even attempt to bring a new and unique looking werewolf to this movie. The wolf in the film looked just like Sam (when he's in wolf form) from the Twilight movies, Big, Black and cuddly! She had an opportunity to impress and she failed! Kinda of like she did with the first Twilight movie. But I understand she was working with a low budget (if you can call 40 million budgets low...lol)

Ok first let me talk about the two male love interests of the movie, played by Shiloh Fernandez and Max Irons. Now these are two cute guys nothing to get all extra excited about. They need some acting lessons though but it's ok they have time to get it right for their next movie. Max Irons is the nephew of Jeremy Irons and there is a little family resemblance. Hmm, I wonder how he got that roll.

Amanda does a good job as always. But I'm tired of her looking so love sick and longing to be loved (in other words HOMELY). It's time for her to glam it up in her next role and stretch those acting chops! Of course for me the star in this movie was Gary Oldman. He was a scene stealer and made the movie so much more interesting when he finally came on screen. And the fact that he was protected by to big buff black guys made his character all the more interesting. It's always so interesting to me that there are so many characters that play "priests or preachers" back in the medieval days and they are escorted by Big Hunky Men. Umm huh YEAH!

This movie was way better than I expected. If you have low expectations going in you will enjoy it. One thing that made it better for me was the mystery behind who the wolf was in human form. I guessed right at first but as the movie went on I ended up changing my guess and so I was wrong but my first guess was right.

See this movie if you are in the mood for yet another werewolf movie, like Gary Oldman as an actor or if someone drags you there like what happened with me.

~Verdict~

Two snaps up and give me the number to Virginia Madsen's Plastic Surgeon!
