Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

Hey KIDS!!!

I will start my first post with a movie that I have been waiting for some time to see. I had high hopes for this movie for three reasons: 1. It opened on my birthday (TODAY! 1/23) 2. I enjoyed the first and second ones 3. I wanted it to do well since most trilogies usually suck!

Well this movie was far from sucking (well except some blood). It is very entertaining and very well made. It still had that dark and mysterious look and feel that the original and sequel films held throughout the movie. That made it seem a little creepier. Now in case you did not know this movie is a prequel to the first one. It is suppose to tell how the war between the Lycans and Vampires started. It returns the incredible Bill Nighy as Viktor (Elder and current ruler of the Vampires) and Michael Sheen as Lucian, the leader and strongest Lycan.

Kate Beckinsale did not reprise her role as Selene this time around. This opened the door for Rhona Mitra (I know I have no idea who she is either) to play Sonja, Viktor's daughter and Lucian's love. Sonja, is a lot like Selene very much independent, defiant, beautiful, sexy and can kick your butt. When comparing the two actresses both play their parts very well but we all know Sonja would be no match for Kate, I mean Selene in battle. But you be the judge.

You may or may not remember Kevin Grevioux's small but important rule in the first film as Lucian's trusted and long time friend, Raze. Well I remember him because in the first fighting scene in Underworld 1 he took his clothes off in the middle of the subway tracks, displaying a very large and muscular body and then he turned into a big large wolf! I have been a fan ever since. I was pleasantly pleased to see that he has a much larger part in this movie and he plays his character well. His voice in the movie is a bit annoying. But I am willing to over look that. However, he stays clothed the entire time, which makes you pay more attention to his acting.

It never seems to amaze me that a lot of the major wars in our history have all started because of love. The Trojan war, Bush's love for oil and money. This time there is no difference. The writers and director probably want you to believe that it was about the love of freedom but it was really about the love between the two different species that started everything.

This movie has everything that makes a movie like this worth watching. It has a plot, romance and non-stop action. It is different from the first two movies because it tells how Lycans (The human form kind) and vampires became to hate each other. Any true Underworld fan will like this movie. There isn't a lot of action from Sonja's character as this movie centers around the Lycans but when it is time for her to deliver she does!

~Verdict~

TWO SNAPS UP and a bite for FORBIDDEN         LOVE - LOVED IT!
